stress case? acne is your reward
I've been one of the lucky ones to not have had a big problem with acne in my lifetime. A spot or two now and then was the status quo for years – until recently, that is. I thought it was just a bad facial that was making me break out. But the eruptions lingered, and only got worse as time went on. Lately, it seems like I've had more breakouts in the last few weeks than throughout all my teen years. And it seems I'm far from alone. The reason? In a word: stress. As if we needed something else to worry about (what with all the bad news going around), stress is our beauty enemy: it triggers our cortisol levels to go up, which aggravates acne.
So, what to do about it? Using products with salicylic acid can help keep oil at bay, and if you're having major eruptions, a visit to the dermatologist can help. As for dealing with stress, there's no one foolproof solution, but eating well, exercising and taking your vitamins can't hurt. Oh, and remember to breathe (sounds silly, but it works!).
