nails: the latest accessory?
I happened upon a post today on one of my new favourite blogs, The Beauty Counter, about the comeback of the "moon manicure" – basically a reverse French manicure, where the nail bed is painted red or dark and the moon is kept light. It originated in the roaring twenties, but was seen recently at the latest Dior fall collection (among other fall shows), in a purple and white incarnation. Nail embellishment is a trend that's been brewing for the last few seasons, and it's one that style maven Dita Von Teese has been sporting as her signature. From the Christian Louboutin manicure (where the top of the nail is painted black, and the underside is painted red) to more intricate two-toned looks seen on last fall's runways, and the launch of Sally Hansen's new line of nail-art pens, nails are having a moment. But why now? As I found out in an article I wrote recently for Elle Canada, with less money to throw around, nails are becoming accessories and statement-making pieces in themselves. They're a quick way to show off some style without breaking the bank.
So how about you? Would you delve into the nail-art trend? Let me know in the comments.
